Who we are

This site (developers.sap.com Tutorial Platform) is operated by SAP SE and its affiliates. The data controller for personal data processed via the site depends on your country of residence — see the “Who is the controller of your personal data?” section of the SAP Privacy Statement for the country-specific controller and contact address.

What we collect and why

Account data

When you sign in with your SAP account, we receive identifiers from the SAP Identity Provider:

  • A user identifier (subject ID)
  • Your given name, family name, and email address

We use this data to:

  • Display your name and avatar in the site header
  • Personalise the Joule chat experience
  • Associate your tutorial-progress records with your account

Tutorial progress

When you mark a tutorial step complete, we store:

  • The tutorial slug and step number
  • A timestamp
  • Your account identifier

This data enables progress tracking, completion paths, and event leaderboards. It is retained for the lifetime of your account.

Audit logs

We maintain audit logs for security and compliance purposes (via the @cap-js/audit-logging framework). These logs record access to personal data and are retained according to SAP retention policies.

Joule chat

When you use the Joule assistant on the site, the messages you send are processed by an AI model to generate responses. Chat transcripts are stored in your browser’s sessionStorage and are not sent to our servers unless required to fulfil your request.

What we do not collect

  • We do not currently use analytics or advertising trackers on the site.
  • We do not sell personal data.
  • We do not share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • Contract — to provide you with access to tutorials and progress tracking after you log in.
  • Legitimate interest — to maintain audit logs and protect the site against abuse.
  • Consent — for any future analytics or non-essential cookies, if and when introduced.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Object to processing or request portability
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

Account deletion

You can request deletion of your tutorial-progress data and account records. The platform supports anonymisation of user records on request; audit-log entries that reference your account will be retained as required by law but will be detached from your identity where possible.

International transfers

SAP SE is a global company, and your data may be processed in jurisdictions other than your own. SAP applies the safeguards described in the SAP Trust Center, including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
